EcoDesign (ErP-2016/2018) and labelling (ELD)

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DESIGN

Regulation (EU) No. 1253/2014, implementing Directive 2009/125/EU (ErP) of the European Parliament and of the Council regards the specific eco-design requirement of the ventilation unit. The Directive on the sustainable design (ErP – Energy related Products) or EcoDesign prescribes minimum requirements for energy efficiency and emissions for some categories of energy-using products, with a gradual improvement (ErP-2016 and ErP- 2018).

To sell in the European Union must be respected minimum values of energy efficiency; in summary:

Erp_2016 – from 1st January 2016

  • variable speed or multiple speed drive
  • thermic by-pass device
  • RESIDENTIAL: Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) ≤ 0 kWh/(m²a)
  • NOT RESIDENTIAL: Minimum Energy Efficiency t_nrvu > 67 %

 ErP-2018 – from 1st January 2018

  • variable speed or multiple speed drive
  • thermic by-pass device
  • warning system for filters change
  • RESIDENTIAL: Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) ≤ – 20 kWh/(m²a)
  • NOT RESIDENTIAL: Minimum Energy Efficiency t_nrvu > 73 %

In general, efficiency of the heat recovery (SEC) will contribute actively to the energy class of the building: the lower the value of SEC, the higher the energy class of the heat recovery unit.

EC LABELING FOR HEAT RECOVERY RESIDENTIAL SECTOR (RVU)

Regulation (EU) No. 1254/2014 supplements Directive 2010/30/EU (ELD) of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the label stating the energy consumption of residential ventilation units. The Labelling Directive (ELD – Energy Labelling Directive) requires labeling products according to a growing energy scale that goes from G to A +; the purpose of the label is to provide Consumers with transparency and clarity: actual and comparable data, in order to make informed choices and be directed on efficient products.

From 1st January 2016, ventilation units for the residential sector will have to be labeled; labels will have to state the following information:

  • name or make of the supplier
  • identification of supplier model
  • efficiency of the heat recovery (from G to A +)
  • sound power
  • maximum flow rate + symbol for UVU or BVU

… determined in accordance with univocal criteria

CONTROL: an important contribution to the efficiency of the ventilation unit – so best SEC energy class – is given by the automatic control of fan speed, and then by the choice of a evolved control panel matched to probes of air quality as relative humidity (R.H.), CO2 concentration (indication of occupancy) and volatile organic compounds (VOC indication of odors and irritating materials) … but also presence / motion detectors, light sensors, etc.

The control analyzes values, information, gives to the CMV unit (fans) the correct indications for optimum operation for air quality, and operating costs.

IMPORTANT for OFFERS: the energy class will have to be declared for each offer (match price – energy class)
